NEW DELHI (15 May, 2012) – A game development contest for Indian game
developers was launched recently in India by Square Enix, the developer and publisher
of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider and Space Invaders. SQUARE ENIX Game Development Contest India 2012 is first ever such contest by a Japanese company to target the Indian region. Developers from diverse fields are being welcomed to join and showcase their talent. Multiple prizes including cash prizes totaling Rs. 23.5 lakhs are being offered.Winners and participants of the contest who show excellent potential would be given an opportunity to work as development partners of SQUARE ENIX for IP development and Square Enix may opt to publish their games.

Seeking to reach out to maximum game developers, Square Enix team, led by its Chairman Mr. Yasuhiro Fukushima has been conducting roadshows to connect with maximum number of students, indie developers, freelancers and game companies in New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. Square Enix`s foray into gaming began with a contest in 1982 when it held a contest “Game Hobby Program Contest” to discover and nurture talented game developers in Japan. The prize winning entries were later developed and released successfully as commercial products reaching dizzy sales heights. This initiative contributed to the development of the Japanese game industry and many participants later became leading game developers. Square Enix hopes to repeat this in India with the SQUARE ENIX Game Development Contest India 2012.

The contest website is live and registrations are now open. Please visit http://india.square-enix.com for further details.
